In early February, I had signed up to study abroad in Florence, Italy. I was so psyched about going! My mom's side of the family is from Sicily, so I thought, what a great way to get in touch with my roots! Unfortunately, I found out yesterday that the trip had been canceled, due to lack of participation, a.k.a, not enough people had signed up! I couldn't believe it! Who wouldn't want to spend 4 weeks traveling around Italy and being doused in such a magnificent culture?
I guess I should have known that it was too good to be true. But, once that door had been closed, God opened many more. For eight years of my childhood, I attended Camp Longhorn in Burnet, Texas. I loved it there: the rolling hills, the sound of crickets at night and sprinklers in the morning. It was a place of memories for me. Last summer, I had to choose between going back to camp for my last year as a camper, or trying something new and going on a sailing trip in the Caribbean. In the end, I decided it was best to change things up, so I went sailing for 10 days with teens from all around the U.S. It was a blast, and I had never seen such a beautiful place in my life, but I still couldn't believe I was abandoning my longtime friends for it. Lucky for me, the cancelation of the Italy trip opened up my summer plans. So, I immediately signed up for both Camp Longhorn and Sail Caribbean! What a fun summer it's going to be!
